Turbidity Monitoring Systems

Turbidity sensors measure suspended solids in water, typically by measuring the amount of light transmitted through the water. They are used in river and stream gauging, wastewater and effluent measurement, control instrumentation for settling ponds, sediment transport research, and laboratory measurements.

OBS-3+

The OBS-3+ is a submersible, turbidity probe that has sideways-facing optics. It uses OBS® technology to measure suspended solids and turbidity for applications ranging from water quality in freshwater rivers and streams to sediment transport and dredge monitoring. Campbell Scientific dataloggers measure the OBS-3+ probe’s output and calculate turbidity.

OBS300

The OBS300 is a submersible, turbidity probe that has downward-facing optics. It uses OBS® technology to measure suspended solids and turbidity for applications ranging from water quality in freshwater rivers and streams to sediment transport and dredge monitoring. Campbell Scientific dataloggers measure the OBS300 probe’s output and calculate turbidity.

OBS500

The OBS500 is a submersible turbidity probe with active antifouling capabilities for better measurements in biologically active water with both high and low turbidity. It outputs an SDI-12, digitally processed signal that many dataloggers can measure.

OBS-3A

The OBS-3A combines an OBS probe with pressure, temperature, and conductivity sensors in a battery-powered recording instrument. Batteries and electronics are contained in a housing capable of operating at depths of up to 300 meters – depending on the pressure sensor installed.

OBS-5+

The OBS-5+ monitors high sediment concentrations using an infrared laser and a proprietary dual photo-detection system (U.S. Patent No. 5,796,481). The probe transmits sediment concentration and depth to a PC via an RS-232 or RS-485 link. Data is also stored internally.

The OBS-5+ is ideal for monitoring dredging and site-remediation operations, determining dredge efficiency, providing data for sediment transport research, and supporting undersea mining and trenching.

  • Operates up to six months on three C-cell batteries
