Ground water monitoring

Ground Water Monitoring

Ground water is the water present beneath the Earth’s surface in soil pore spaces and in the fractures of rock formations. It is recharged from, and eventually flows to, the surface naturally; natural discharge often occurs at springs and seeps, and can form oases or wetlands.

Ground water is often withdrawn for agricultural, municipal, and industrial use by constructing and operating extraction wells. The water is extracted from the aquifers  where there is a usable quantity of water.

Pressure transducers are a common measurement device used in ground water applications. There are a variety of sensors and systems on the market for measuring and recording ground water level.  We can help you to select the most appropriate sensor or system to meet your project goals.

Below you will find a selection of the different types of systems that we recommend.  You can also click here to view a page with a more complete listing of water level sensors and systems.

Bluetooth MX2001 Water Level Logger

Onset’s HOBO MX2001 is the industry’s first water level data logger designed for convenient wireless setup and download from mobile devices via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology. The logger dramatically simplifies and lowers the cost of field data collection by providing wireless access to high-accuracy water level and temperature measurements right from a mobile phone or tablet.

Supported Measurements: Water Level, Water Temperature, Absolute Pressure, Barometric Pressure, Differential Pressure.

Key Advantages

• Wireless data offload to mobile devices via BLE
• Direct-read cable connects sensor to top-end logger
• Integrated barometric pressure sensor enables direct water level readout
• Reference water level can be entered at start of deployment
• Use HOBOmobile for setup, data viewing, and data sharing
• The cable includes Kevlar strength member
• Powered by two user replaceable AA batteries
• Normal, multi-rate, and burst-logging modes
• Durable ceramic sensor
• Available with stainless steel or titanium sensor ends

HOBO U20 Water Level Loggers

HOBO U20-001-04 water level loggerThe HOBO U20 Water Level data loggers are high accuracy loggers with no cumbersome vent tubes or desiccants to maintain. These data logger are ideal for recording water levels and temperatures in shallow wells, streams, lakes and freshwater wetlands. A titanium version is available for saltwater deployments, such as brackish wetlands and tidal areas.

Available in a Kit form the U20 Kit provides everything needed to start monitoring water levels and temperatures in Streams, Lakes, Wells and Fresh water Wetlands. The second U20 provides the barometric pressure data required to for the software to provide accurate water level readings.

Features of the U20 Loggers

  • Ideal for use in wells, streams, lakes, wetlands and tidal areas
  • Lightning protection – no long signal wires, and electronics are shielded in stainless steel housing for use in freshwater
  • HOBOware Pro software provides easy conversion to accurate water level reading, fully compensated for barometric pressure temperature, and water density.
  • Multiple-rate sampling allows faster sampling at critical times such as when pumping starts or stops.
  • Available in 4 depth ranges
  • No-vent-tube design for easy reliable deployment
  • Available in stainless and titanium versions
  • Durable ceramic pressure sensor
  • 3-point NIST-traceable calibration certificate included
