Software for Data Collection, Storage and Analysis

To program, collect and analyse data you will need a software package.  There are a few options to choose from, but you first must decide what system or logger you will be using and then select the appropriate software.

If you will be using the Campbell Scientific systems and loggers you will have a few choices when it comes to software.  Below are the most often used packages and a brief description of each package. Some of this software can be purchased from our Webstore.

PC200W Starter Software (Free)

PC200W Starter Software is designed for first-time users or users with simple data communication needs; it provides basic tools (clock set, program download, monitor data, retrieve data, etc.). PC200W supports direct connects between a PC and datalogger (no telecommunications or scheduling support).

After a program is created with our Short Cut Program Generator (included), PC200W is typically used to download the program to the datalogger. Free Download of PC200W V3.3

Note: PC200W is a very basic software package that is mainly used to view data and collect data from a datalogger.  It offers very basic programming options.

PC400

PC400 is Campbell Scientific's mid-level datalogger support software. This versatile software supports a variety of telecommunication options, manual data collection, and data display. PC400 includes an easy-to-use program generator (Short Cut) as well as full-featured program editors (Edlog, CRBasic). PC400 does not support combined communication options (e.g., phone-to-RF), PakBus® routing, or scheduled data collection--LoggerNet software is recommended for applications that require those capabilities.

Note: PC400 is the basic programming and data collection package.  It will be appropriate for a large percentage of users. Scheduled or automatic data retrieval is not an option in PC400.

LoggerNet

LoggerNet supports programming, communication, and data retrieval between Campbell Scientific dataloggers and a PC. LoggerNet can support connection to a single datalogger, but it is especially adept in applications that require telecommunications or scheduled data retrieval used in large datalogger networks.

LoggerNet consists of a server application and several client applications integrated into a single product. LoggerNet runs on a PC, using serial ports, telephony drivers, and Ethernet hardware to communicate with dataloggers via phone modems, RF devices, and other peripherals. The LoggerNet server stores the data in a cache and writes data to ASCII files.

LoggerNet is the standard software package recommended for those who have datalogger networks that do not require the more advanced features offered in LoggerNet Admin. LoggerNet includes the LoggerNet server and integrated client applications that allow you to program the datalogger, collect data, monitor and troubleshoot the network, manage the dataloggers in your network, create graphical data displays that update when data is collected, create automated tasks, and view or post-process the data

Note: LoggerNet is mostly selected by users that will have a larger network of loggers with remote telemetry in place for collecting data.  It has options for networks of loggers and the ability to automatically collect data based upon a user defined schedule.  There is also a package called LoggerNet Admin which allows for even more networking options.

RTMC and RTMC Pro

RTMC is short for Real Time Monitoring and Control.  This package is included in LoggerNet.  RTMC allows for graphical display of your data on a PC screen.  The data is updated every time data is collected by LoggerNet. You also have the ability to interact with data such as changing set points and turning switches on and off to control items like pumps or alarms.

RTMC Pro is a separate package that offers advanced graphical screen development and easy web integration.  It offers greater control over screens and automated Web publishing. A trial is available on the Campbell Scientific Website. (click here)

PConnect and PConnectCE

The size and cost of PDAs make them a popular tool to use in the field to communicate with our dataloggers. PConnect and PConnectCE Software offer easy methods of using your PDA to interactively communicate with your datalogger. The software supports functions such as transfer of data and programs, display of real-time data, and graphing of datalogger data in a simple, intuitive fashion.
